It’s a big job, as the next mayor will be the executive of the fourth-largest city in the country. Many issues are top of mind for Houstonians this cycle—some old, some new—such as affordable housing, traffic congestion, flooding, transportation infrastructure, and public safety.
The Houston mayoral election is run on a nonpartisan ballot, so candidates are not identified as Democrats or Republicans. The official filing deadline on August 21 having now passed, the candidate list in this guide is final.

When is the Houston mayoral election? Election day is on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
When is early voting? Early voting in Texas runs from October 23 to November 3.
Can I still register to vote? Unfortunately, no. The deadline to register was October 10. Mailed voter registration applications must have been postmarked 30 days before Election Day. In-person registration needed to occur 30 days prior as well. If you’re unsure of your status, you can check your voter registration on the Harris Votes website.
When is the last day for an absentee ballot application? This must be received by October 27.
